Roped teams of the two climbers climb on the same route prepared by referees executing inter-belay with mandatory completion of the anounced technique elements (belay points, change of leader, fly, climbdown on the rope, etc.) Time for passing is limited, the time limit is announced at route presentation.
5 short routes include 2 techical elements - e.g. climb-up - climb-down, climb - fly, etc. The 6th route (Extreme Route) includes many of such elements combined with climbing difficulties and requires certain level of team experience. Winners on one of the 5 short routes are qualified fot final contest on the Extreme Route.
Every participant of the Climbing Marathon allowed to take part in the competition. Before the competition starts, the common drawing is held and the initial start list is drawn up. Then, new participants names appended by their verbal demands. Time for the competition is limited; in the case a team is on a route at the end, it may pass on until the route lime limit.
A single attempt for passing is allowed; it considered taken at the moment of start of a team member.
Participants can start on each route with new partner (this does not allow second attempt).
A team may get penalty points for safety rules violations (see below).
In the case the team has completed the route, the team result (points) is defined as: 240 x (Limit Time / Team Time) - Penalty Points

Penalty Table Explanations:
Falling-off is fixed by the technique referee.
Falling-off with self-fix is applied in the case the falling climber did not charge the referees' rope.
Lost referees' rope is charged when a climber is not belayed through a hook (or roped) to referees' rope
Lost team rope is charged when the climbers cannot reach the only(last) rope without belay interruption.
Belay station is considered missed when the leader slipped a hook into the next intermediate belay point. Belay station is considered passed after both climbers were self-belayed on the station or second climber touched the hook by hand.
Intermediate belay point is considered missed when the leader slipped a hook into the next intermediate belay point.
Cessation of belay is considered in the case:
- a climber has no belay nor self-belay on a station,
- the belayer let the rope from both hands without blocking,
- doubled-rope endings are opened up on climbdown,
- when climbdown, the first climber is not provided by partner's belay or the second climber is not self-belayed by proper knot.
Wrong belay is considered when:
- rope slacked lower than the (second) climber's feet,
- self-belay rope is longer than 1.5 m,
- both climbers are belayed through the only one hook,
- belay and climbdown arranged on the only one hook,
- the belayer has not fixed the rope to herself,
- on the climbdown referees' rope goes through the hook,
- chafed ropes on the climbdown.
Wrong climbdown considered when the rope is lost from regulating hand or landing with a fall.
